Statement I have been practising as a mixed media artist since graduating in Fine Art from the University of Hull, Scarborough Campus, in 2003. Currently, I am a studio holder at Roscoe Artspace, and have resided here since November 2004. My work is created using an eclectic mix of media - I combine acrylic paint, inks, wax, found objects and other materials from everyday life. My inspiration is taken from the world around us - our lives are spent amongst a bewildering clutter of sights, sounds, events and encounters with people, which are reflected through my collage paintings. Images, words and objects coexist in my work to create a freedom that I find cannot be given through paint alone. I strive to find beauty and instil a fresh life into what others have discarded. Collage offers a unique excitement through its tactile versatility and ability to subvert meanings, having significance to myself on both an aesthetic and a personal level. The actual application of this medium mirrors the layering of my thoughts, ideas and experiences. Together with producing my studio work for exhibiting, I take private and public commissions. I am available for both running and assisting art workshops, as I am NOCN accredited to Level Two in Community Art Skills.
